Best Tripod for Content Creators (honest review)

My Honest Review of the KraftGeek JustTap Magnetic Phone Tripod

android video content creation tools iphone video smartphone video solopreneur video for business video gear video tips

Full disclosure: KraftGeek reached out and sent me this tripod to try. And before you roll your eyes thinking "oh great, another sponsored post," let me tell you - I spent way too much time researching whether this company was legit before saying yes. I mean, who doesn't want to try cool tech? (Yes please!) But I also don't want to waste my time or yours on junk.

Now, I typically hate unboxing videos. Like, seriously hate them. Just get to the point - does the thing work or not? So naturally, I didn't film one.

Big mistake.

Because when I tapped this thing open for the first time...

That was literally my face. A phone tripod that opens with just a tap? Come on.
But onto what I think about this tripod.

It Actually Does What It Says (I Know, Shocking)

Here's what immediately impressed me about the JustTap:

  • It's ridiculously compact. When folded, it's literally only 13 inches - perfect size to toss in my backpack without that "am I carrying camera equipment or going camping?" feeling.
  • The magnetic mount is honestly genius. No more fumbling with those awkward phone clips that never quite fit right. The built-in N52-grade magnets (fancy, right?) mean your phone just snaps into place. Horizontal? Vertical? The dual-axis 180° rotation has you covered.
  • That tap-to-open mechanism? After 10,000 drop tests (according to KraftGeek), it still works like butter. One tap and boom - you're literally ready to shoot.
  • The Bluetooth remote is actually useful. No extra app to download (thank goodness). Just connect to your phone and it works for both photos and videos. The fact that it magnetically attaches to the tripod? Chef's kiss. No more "where did I put that tiny remote?"

How I'm Actually Using It (Spoiler: For Everything, almost)

As a solopreneur, my professional and personal life tend to blur together. This tripod has become my Swiss Army knife for content creation:

  • Webinars and coaching calls: Positioned behind my laptop, just peeking over the top for that professional "I definitely have my life together" look
  • Video tutorials: When I need to be that helpful face in the corner during screenshares
  • Reels and TikToks: Because apparently that's mandatory for business owners now
  • Podcast video recordings (maybe): The tripod does take up a lot of surface area so if I’m filming from laptop on my kitchen table - great (which I do sometimes) - but on my office desk with a big computer that doesn’t leave a lot of space for this tripod infront of my notes on the computer (watch video to see proof of this)

Previously, I swore by my Gorilla Pod. But honestly? The JustTap is just too quick and easy not to use instead. It extends up to 66 inches (168cm for my metric friends), giving you way more height options than most portable tripods.

Playing Around: More Ways I've Been Using It

Now that I've had more time to experiment, I keep discovering new ways to use this thing:

Aerial shots that actually look aerial. Extended to full height, I can literally get those cool overhead shots that usually require a drone or a really tall friend. Perfect for flat lay content or showing off workspace setups.

Walk-and-talk like a pro. Collapsed down, it doubles as the world's most overqualified selfie stick. But here's the kicker - it feels like holding a lightsaber (yes, I'm that person). The weight distribution is perfect for those walking-and-talking shots without the arm fatigue or too much camera wobble.

Hills? No problem. Tested it on the incline of my driveway, and those 11-inch tripod feet kept it stable. I was genuinely impressed - most lightweight tripods would've toppled over faster than my New Year's resolutions.

The magnet shake test. Obviously I had to test how strong these magnets really are. Started with gentle shakes and worked up to a much higher intensity. It took way more force than I expected before the phone finally gave up (watch the video to see the new crack I’ve added to my screen in this test). In normal use? That phone isn't going anywhere.

Here's the real game-changer though: I'm actually creating more content now. When you film everything yourself (hello, fellow solopreneurs!), setup time is literally the enemy of creativity. This thing makes it so quick that "I don't have time to set up" honestly isn't an excuse anymore.

And yes, I'm already planning to take this on holiday. Family photos where I'm actually IN them? Revolutionary.

The Not-So-Perfect Parts (Because Nothing Is)

Let's be real for a second:
Wind resistance is questionable. I haven't tested it in proper wind yet (hasn't been windy here), but I saw another reviewer's video where it struggled. That said, I did test tapping it and watching it wobble - it stayed put, which is reassuring. The 11-inch tripod feet create a decent base, but I wouldn't trust it in anything more than a gentle breeze.

Long-term durability question mark. I’ve had this for a few weeks. That telescopic mechanism that extends the pole? I wonder if it'll loosen over time with heavy use. Though with aircraft-grade aluminum construction, it'll probably outlast my phone.

Is It Worth Your Money?

At $74 NZD ($42.99 USD), it's not the cheapest phone tripod out there. But considering you're getting:

  • Super quick and easy tap-to-open setup
  • MagSafe-compatible magnetic mount
  • Bluetooth remote
  • 1-year warranty
  • 30-day returns

The convenience factor alone makes it worth it for anyone creating content regularly. Time is money, and this thing literally saves you time every single use.

Want One?

If you're tired of wrestling with complicated setups or cheap tripods that topple over when you breathe near them, I genuinely recommend giving this a shot.

Look, at the end of the day, the best tripod is the one you'll actually use. And when something is this easy to set up? You'll use it. Trust me on that one.
